Visiting New Lab

New Lab is located in Building 128 within the Brooklyn Navy Yard, closest to 1 Cumberland Street, Brooklyn, NY 11205 if you need a street address. We are located just behind the Cumberland Gate, located at Cumberland Street and Flushing Avenue. Inside that gate, proceed to the security checkpoint to be directed to New Lab.

Subway:

Take the A or C train to High Street / Brooklyn Bridge:
Exit on Adams Street. Either transfer to the B69 to Cumberland Street and Flushing Avenue or walk down Sands Street to Navy Street and make a right on Navy Street. Take Navy Street to Flushing Avenue and make a left. Continue on Flushing and you will arrive at the Cumberland Gate on your left hand side. Total walk is about 20 minutes.

Take the F train to York Street:
Option 1: Transfer to the B62 at York and Gold Streets going toward Long Island City. Get off at Vanderbilt and Park Avenues. Walk one block to Flushing Avenue. Make a left and continue on Flushing Avenue until you arrive at the Cumberland Gate on your right hand side.
Option 2: Exit the train and make a right on York Street. Follow York until it intersects Navy Street. Make a right on Navy Street and walk to Flushing Avenue, make a left and continue on Flushing until you arrive at the Cumberland Gate on your left hand side.

Take the G train to Clinton / Washington Avenue:
Walk down Lafayette Avenue. Make a left on Clinton Avenue. Continue on Clinton until you get to Flushing Avenue. Make a left at Flushing Avenue and continue until you arrive at the Cumberland Gate on your right hand side.

Bus Lines – B48, B57, B62, B69, B67

Take the B57 or the B69 to Cumberland Street and Flushing Avenue. Continue to the Cumberland Gate.

Take the B62 to Vanderbilt and Park Avenues and walk one block to Flushing Avenue. Continue left on Flushing Avenue until you arrive at the Cumberland Gate on your right hand side.

Take the B48 to Flushing and Franklin Avenues. Then take the B57 going to Downtown Fulton to Flushing and Vanderbilt Avenues. Continue along Flushing until you reach the Cumberland Gate on your right hand side.

By Car:

Please enter the address 1 Cumberland Street, Brooklyn into the GPS. This will take you to a location that is directly across the street from the Navy Yard’s Cumberland Gate, where New Lab is located. Additional directions follow.

From the Brooklyn Bridge:
Take the Brooklyn Bridge to the Tillary Street exit, making sure to merge into the left lane as you arrive at the light. At the traffic light, make a left onto Tillary Street. Drive straight and after a few blocks you will see the entrance ramp to the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE) rise in front of you. Don’t get on the BQE. Instead, bear right and continue on Tillary Street. After the next light Tillary becomes Park Avenue. Continue on Park Avenue and make a left at Clinton Avenue. Take Clinton Avenue to Flushing Avenue. Make a left on Flushing Avenue and arrive at the Cumberland Gate on your right hand side.

From the Manhattan Bridge:
At the first traffic light, make a right onto Tillary Street. Continue on Tillary Street until you reach Jay Street. Make a right turn onto Jay. Continue on Jay until you reach Sands Street. Make a right onto Sands Street. Continue on Sands Street until you reach the dead end at Navy Street. Make a right onto Navy. Drive one block and make a left onto Flushing Avenue. Proceed down Flushing Avenue until you reach the Cumberland Gate on your left hand side.

From the Williamsburg Bridge:
Take the outer roadway on the Bridge. Take the first exit to Broadway (West) and bear right at the fork. Continue on Broadway until you reach Wythe Avenue. At traffic light make a left onto Wythe Avenue. Take Wythe Avenue to Clymer Street. Make a right turn on Clymer Street. From Clymer make a left on Kent, bearing right toward the BQE. Remain in the right lane and Kent will merge into Flushing Avenue. Drive straight on Flushing until you reach the Cumberland Gate on your right hand side.

From Queens:
Take the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE) to Exit 31. Continue for two blocks and make a right onto Wythe Avenue. Continue to first traffic light at Clymer Street. From Clymer make a left on Kent, bearing right toward the BQE. Remain in the right lane and Kent will merge into Flushing Avenue. Drive straight on Flushing until you reach the Cumberland Gate on your right hand side.

From Staten Island, New Jersey or Bay Ridge:
Take the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE) to the Flushing Avenue Exit. Make a left onto Flushing Avenue. Continue on Flushing until you arrive at the Cumberland Gate on your right hand side.

Bike:

A bike-friendly community, we are located along the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative’s bike and pedestrian path. Take a Citi Bike to New Lab – there are dedicated stations all around the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Parking:

On-street parking is available on Flushing Avenue.

New Lab is a private workspace and is closed to the public. However, we welcome visitors once each month for Turnstile Tours’ “Inside Industry” look at New Lab. You can sign up on their website here.

Please bring a photo ID with you. Additionally, you may have received a barcode from the person you are visiting at New Lab. If you don’t have a bar code, you will need to sign in with BNY security at the gate and let them know you are visiting New Lab.

Prototyping Shops

New Lab’s prototyping shops are reserved for members.

Yes. New Lab’s trained shop staff is available to members during business hours.

Yes. In fact, all members must go through mandatory shop safety training and basic equipment training prior to gain regular access to the shop.

Food

Yes, New Lab has an on-site café, Chefs Club X, as well as a self-service kitchen.

There are many new food options coming to the Navy Yard and the surrounding neighborhood. A few current favorites include Vinegar Hill House, Kings County’s The Gatehouses, Rooftop Reds wine bar, Brooklyn Roasting Company, Oaxaca Taqueria, and Ngon Vietnamese.

Investment

There is a venture arm of New Lab that periodically makes select seed and growth-stage investments in companies associated with New Lab.
