Although mentors and other resources are available to help guide progress, each project will be self-directed by each Fellow for the duration of his or her residency.

Who is it for?

The program is for scientists, designers, storytellers, artists and creative technologists who embrace self-directed experimentation and interdisciplinary approaches to problem-solving. This fellowship is intended to complement the work of full-time professionals or graduate students.

Where is it?

Housed in a dedicated studio at New Lab, this program is designed to create meaningful touch points between the Fellows and New Lab’s robust community of members, companies, and programs.

What does the program offer?

The Sandbox

A dedicated work studio at New Lab that can be accessed 24/7; this includes a personal, full-time desk for each Fellow throughout the three-month residency term, with unrestricted access to New Lab's common spaces and prototyping resources. Although Science Sandbox @ New Lab projects are intended to be part-time, Fellows are welcome to use this as their full-time studio or office during their term.

Fellows have 24/7 access to New Lab's space, Project Realization labs and rapid prototyping/fabrication resources. New Lab’s shops are maintained and managed by a knowledgable staff who are available to consult on design workflow.

Community & Mentorship

Science Sandbox @ New Lab fellows will have unique access to a vetted network of influencers, advisors, mentors, funders, and investors. The program includes access to New Lab's community programming and workshops, as well as special Fellowship-specific events and opportunities—including weekly lunches, lectures, brainstorming meetings, and more.
