Newlab is seeking an Interim Design Director to lead our growing creative team and oversee our Creative Residency program, which brings together creatives across disciplines to collaborate on projects that support and celebrate Newlab’s community. This role will report to Newlab’s Chief Brand Officer and serve as part of the extended leadership team spanning Newlab’s Brooklyn and Detroit locations.

This role is contract to hire opportunity filling in on contract for a team member on parental leave.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help define, evolve, and execute on Newlab’s brand identity
  • Manage a team of 4+ creatives on projects ranging from digital asset creation and deck design to editorial content production, website design/UX, and brand development
  • Work closely with our Senior Producer to identify resourcing needs, recruit freelance talent, and keep projects on track
  • Serve as a trusted creative and strategic advisor to Newlab’s employees and community


  • Previous experience managing a team of at least 3 designers and overseeing both work and people management duties.
