Event Recap

This showcase brings together the winners of the weekend-long hackathon to demonstrate their solutions and discuss the ways that data can help to fight COVID-19.

From April 24-26, The COVID-19 Data Hack attracted a diverse community of data scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, and hackers. 65 teams from around the world gathered virtually to develop data-based solutions to address pressing challenges related to the current pandemic: understanding the impact of COVID-19 on communities, tactics for prevention in rural communities, and leveraging mobility data to map the impact of social distancing.

The winning teams:

– Optimize – a system for incentivizing better social distancing practices at retail locations
– MyFauci – offering vetted resources to provide much needed information to rural emergency managers
– Data Hounds – zip code-level algorithmic analysis to better assess the spread of the virus across New York City and community readiness to reopen
