Event Recap

In the current crisis, we know data can save lives.

AppliedXL, a Newlab company, in partnership with The Boston Globe and STAT News hosts a virtual data hackathon to address pressing challenges related to the current pandemic.

We are making the Applied XL API available to help address challenges in three key areas related to the current COVID-19 pandemic. The challenges are: 1.) predicting disparities in the pandemic’s impact on different communities, 2.) prevention in rural America and beyond, and 3.) modeling the impact of social distancing.

The COVID-19 Data Hack will bring a diverse community of data scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, and hackers together to create real solutions to support COVID-19 response efforts. As teams work to build open-source solutions they will have access to Applied XL’s coronavirus-related data API along with additional data made available by the Center on Rural InnovationNarrativaFoursquare, and Numina.

The hackathon will kick-off with a webinar on the afternoon of Friday, April 24 hosted by Applied XL, a venture committed to leveraging data to support the health of people, places, and the planet. The hackathon will culminate in team presentations on Sunday evening, April 26. Teams will be supported through a dedicated Slack channel and projects will be reviewed and evaluated by a panel of judges from the data science and health communities.
