New Lab City: A Public-Private Partnership Program

New Lab City creates public-private partnerships to define the future of cities.

We believe that fostering a deeper connection between cities and entrepreneurs will yield important advances in technology for a more sustainable, resilient, and accessible future. We achieve this through the following programs.

Circular City

Launched by New Lab and NYCEDC in 2018, Circular City empowers urban tech startups to help make New York City more equitable, livable and resilient by convening diverse stakeholders to champion frontier technologies and human-centered outcomes. We are on a mission to accelerate product development, adoption and investment in urban technologies proven to be effective in tackling the increasingly complex and urgent challenges facing New York City.

This year, Circular City is focused on addressing urban challenges in transitioning to a circular economy and improving energy efficiency in buildings.

Urban Tech Hub

The Urban Tech Hub supports a cluster of New Lab member companies who are building products to improve the quality of life in cities. The program is designed to provide resources that ensure the urban tech sector flourishes in New York City, a top priority of our partners at the City of New York’s Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). The current cohort focuses on one or more of the following areas: energy, mobility, waste and water management, food systems, built environment and digital infrastructure, and across such disciplines as robotics, AI, and connected devices.

Offerings include access to the New Lab City team, which is dedicated to facilitating strategic introductions and connecting companies with resources, events and programming to help scale their businesses and the opportunity to pilot products or technology in the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s 300 acre campus.
