New Lab City: A Public-Private Partnership Program

New Lab City brings innovators and city stakeholders together to create public-private partnerships that define the future of cities.

We believe that fostering a deeper connection between cities and entrepreneurs will yield important advances in technology for a more sustainable, resilient, and accessible future.

New Lab City’s goal is to cultivate a network of public partners who want to engage with emerging and frontier technologies in order to build more dynamic cities. We achieve this through the following programs.

Urban Tech Hub

A program supported by the City of New York's Economic Development Corporation, the Urban Tech Hub supports a cluster of growth-stage companies who are building products to help improve the quality of life in cities. Working in such verticals as the built environment, digital infrastructure, mobility, and energy, the current cohort has cumulatively raised over $325M.

Offerings include the opportunity to pilot new technologies in real urban environments, including the Brooklyn Navy Yard's 300-acre campus. Navy Yard pilot projects have included preparation for New York’s first autonomous vehicle testing site, deployment of solar-powered temperature and dissolved oxygen sensors for the Navy Yard’s shoreline to establish real-time data on water quality, and a dockless electric-bike-sharing pilot which led to the first citywide, city-sanctioned electric bike fleet.

The Circular City

Expanding New Lab's entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit beyond its walls, The Circular City program brings together city leaders, corporate partners, entrepreneurs and university innovators to address urban challenges.

The Circular City's aim is to accelerate development, deployment and partnerships to achieve breakthroughs in emerging technology that positively impact urban life. The program is currently focused on issues of mobility, economic development and urban resilience; participating partners include the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, Columbia University, NYU's GovLab, Cornell Tech and New Lab member companies including Numina, CARMERA and Citiesense.
