Venture Studio

Serial entrepreneurs tackling
the world’s most pressing problems.
Our Venture Studio is a platform to build impactful, scalable companies in partnership with experienced domain experts who have a distinct capacity to lead. As a co-founder in new companies, Newlab provides the infrastructure, team, and network necessary to create resilient businesses that leverage frontier technologies.

Most partners of the Venture Studio program begin as Experts-in-Residence (EIRs) at Newlab. EIRs identify market gaps, develop business models, build teams, and ultimately launch companies with Newlab as their partner.

Spiro Devices

In March 2020, teams from Newlab, 10xBeta, and Boyce Technologies came together to rapidly respond to the ventilator shortage created by COVID-19, forming a new medical device company capable of designing and manufacturing a new emergency ventilation device at scale.

In under four weeks, Spiro Devices worked with the NYCEDC and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors to produce and distribute the Spiro Wave: a low-cost, automatic resuscitator that helps hospitals expand their capacity to care for patients with critical ventilation needs. The device addresses the immediate needs of the global crisis and brings increased control to manual emergency processes deployed in everyday ambulatory and hospital settings.
