2019 Member Milestones

Over 700 entrepreneurs, investors and engineers are scaling their companies at Newlab. Many of them saw impressive milestones in 2019 in the form of product launches and awards.

Honeybee Robotics selected to send two payloads to the Moon 

Honeybee Robotics was selected by NASA to fly two payloads on a Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) flight under the Lunar Surface Instrument and Technology Payloads (LSITP) and Artemis Lunar Programs. Read more here.

CLIP Bike won Innovation of the Year Award 

This December, CLIP Bikewon the Innovation Award of the Year at the Make It in Brooklyn Innovation Awards for its invention which upgrades any bicycle to an e-bicycle. Earlier this year, CLIP Bike also won the Make It in Brooklyn Future of Transportation pitch contest.

Launcher Space awarded $1.5m at Air Force Space Pitch Day 

Launcher was awarded $1.5M at the inaugural Air Force Space Pitch Day. Launcher reported that the award would accelerate the development and testing of their full-scale Launcher E-2 engine, the world’s highest performance and lowest cost engine for small satellite launchers.

10xBeta won $1.5m for its co-invention, Validose

Working in partnership with Dr. Kyle Lapidus, a pioneering psychiatrist and neurologist specializing in Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD), 10XBeta co-invented Validose, the first smart, connected, and secure intranasal device for the delivery of highly-controlled substances. They pitched at the Publicis Health Media Disruption Garage and won $1.5M.

This year, light released the second version of the light phone. The light phone II is an improvement from the first light phone, with new features such as text messaging, an unlimited address book, faster connectivity speeds, and a dashboard. The light phone II was featured in TIME’s list of BEST INVENTIONS 2019.

JUMP and Tarform featured in Fast Company’s list of Top Mobility Designs of 2019 

JUMP and Tarform won Fast Company’s 2019 Innovation by Design Awards in the Mobility category.

Xin Liu’s Living Distance

Artist-in-residence Xin Liu‘s piece Living Distance, a robotic sculpture (which was largely constructed at Newlab), traveled on the Blue Origin New Shepard rocket to space and back! Living Distance activated during lift-off, performed a cosmic dance, and shattered into pieces upon re-entry.

Optimus Ride’s Self-Driving Vehicle System Launches in Brooklyn Navy Yard 

In August, Optimus Ride held the launch of New York State’s first commercial self-driving vehicle system at Newlab. Read more here.

Waverly Labs: The Ambassador 

Earlier this year, Waverly Labs launched its second product, the Ambassador. The Ambassador provides real-time translation services to professionals and teams.

Artiphon: Orba
