ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Controller, this position is responsible for supporting key business operational functions, namely the month-end and annual close processes, preparing financial statements in compliance with GAAP, the financial statement audit and recurring accounting tasks. Crucial to this role are strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, a strong sense of being a team player, and the ability to think critically. This position has a significant growth trajectory with increasing responsibilities.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborating in a small team, the Senior Accountant plays a key role in all accounting functions, including ownership of monthly close activities, preparing balance sheet reconciliations while resolving any issues, and establishing and monitoring budgets and forecasts
  • Ensure compliance and proper revenue recognition
  • Partner with Program Managers to understand transactions and arrangements to ensure accurate and timely reporting of Program costs
  • Assist with the monthly financial close, including entering journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, and maintaining supporting schedules
  • Assist in the development or improvement of internal controls and corporate procedures
  • Proactively identify areas for process enhancements and partner with other departments on improvements to help achieve scalability and to support new business initiatives
  • Provide support for audit request or ad-hoc reporting requests
  • Work across the team to find insights from daily, weekly, and monthly reporting and analysis of business operations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, & ABILITY

  • 3+ years of experience in Big 4 public accounting, private industry or both 
  • Experience with month-end close processes, preparing account reconciliations and recording journal entries
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related fields 
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, CPA a plus 
  • Strong accounting and analytical skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and cultivate and develop key relationships; 
  • Desire to seek out and implement process improvements to drive team’s efficiency;
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team;
  • Self-starter with a strong attention to detail; and
  • Start-up or related experience is a plus.
