This fall, Newlab will open its second flagship location as part of Ford’s $1B mobility innovation district in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit.


The Brand Team is seeking an extraordinary individual to be the first ‘curator’ for Newlab’s second flagship location in Detroit’s Book Depository Building, opening this fall as a part of Ford’s $1B mobility innovation district, Michigan Central. In this pioneering role, the Curator would be responsible for leading the design, curation, and execution of all experiences and programming at our Detroit location focused on fostering community, learning, and inspiration. The brief is simple—to enhance the connection between our brand and the Newlab Detroit collective by designing, creating, and executing a series of dynamic events and experiences

    • The heartbeat of this role is the ability to create a consistent set of experiences that move and inspire people. The art of curation is a core aptitude for success. Inherent in this role is a high level of autonomy and with that accountability to consistently execute as planned.

    • In this role, you have the opportunity to galvanize a diverse collective around your vision. You are a magnetic personality that sparks conversation and your secret power is bringing people together.

    • We believe that if you want to be creative, you have to be organized. This role requires a high level of organization, prioritization, and planning skills.  
  • Communicator
    • You are a phenomenal communicator. We are looking for someone who is skilled at communication and nurturing feedback loops. Strong public speaking skills are essential.


Responsibilities include: 

  • Build Brand Awareness
    • Collaborate across departments to develop the experiential strategy for Newlab’s Detroit location to deepen brand connection and increase ecosystem engagement.
  • Experiential Design
    • Conceive and design interactive elements/activations and experiences that are unique, memorable, and support the brand vision. The experiential design will include Newlab produced events (including internal and public-facing events), as well as event partnerships/sponsorships and virtual experiences.
  • Produce high-quality and engaging programming
    • Lead the production of high-quality, engaging events with an eye on even the smallest of details. Develop, implement, and enforce systems and best practices that drive the execution and promotion of events to be more efficient and effective across all teams while building brand awareness and equity. 
  • Brand Exhibitions
    • Collaborate with the Creative team to develop and produce exhibitions that communicate our brand mission and ethos.
  • Marketing and Promotion
    • Lead marketing and promotion of events in collaboration with the Brand and Creative team. Drive RSVPs, engagement during events as well as outreach post-events to build an engaged audience that will be advocates for Newlab.
