Vycarb is a Brooklyn-based startup enabling decentralized carbon removal through real-time, autonomous, and direct measurement of CO2 in water. Their product, the Vycube, can be dropped in oceans, rivers, lakes, fish tanks and private docks where it will directly and autonomously measure the level of carbon it is removing and safely storing. Each Vycube removes 5+ tons CO2 per year – enough to offset the entire emissions of the average American.
Vycarb’s founder, Garrett Boudinot, arrived at Newlab in early 2023 with a strong need to build and test his solutions. With a small team, Vycarb’s challenge was to find sufficient resources to meet their growing prototyping, development, and testing needs.
At Newlab, Vycarb quickly began leveraging the community and the surrounding facilities to perfect their solutions and grow their business. They used the fabrication space to adjust their prototypes, the lab to test and validate their performance, and the space around the Navy Yard to field-test and demonstrate the VyCube’s impact in relevant conditions. Beyond the facilities, the team also loves bouncing ideas off fellow Newlab members and having a nice home office in which they can bring partners and clients. Now, Vycarb has a tested and proven solution, and can expand from focusing on prototyping and piloting, to serving specific customers' needs.
